WHAT WE DO

Superheater Manufacturers

As a leading superheater manufacturing company, Industrial Boilers America’s superheaters are designed and built to handle the demands of industrial operations. Superheaters enhance steam quality by raising its temperature well above its boiling point, typically to temperatures above 500 degrees Celsius. This higher temperature significantly improves energy transfer efficiency throughout the steam system, ensuring that more heat energy is effectively utilized. As a result, equipment performance is enhanced, leading to more reliable operation and increased productivity across various industrial applications.

Our engineers can design the right industrial superheater for your application at a competitive price and delivery. We’ll go over the best application that works for you depending on the type of boiler and boiler capacity you have in your operation. There are advantages to superheated steam that may, and often will, increase the overall efficiency of both steam generation and its utilization: gains in input temperature to a turbine should outweigh any cost in additional boiler complication and expense. Our industrial superheaters use the highest quality steel (carbon steel and stainless steel) on the market to be able to operate in extremely harsh conditions without buckling under pressure. We work with our customers to find the design that works best for their application with the aim of providing cost savings that help our customers get a quicker return on their investment.

What is a superheater?

A superheater is a device that converts saturated steam or wet steam into dry steam or superheated steam. Steam turbines utilize superheated steam for electricity generation, steam engines, and processes like steam reforming. In other words, the superheater is a coil-type heat exchanger that produces superheated steam or creates dry steam by converting wet steam generated by a boiler. They are crucial components in steam boilers that heat steam beyond its saturation point, increasing its temperature and energy content.

Even though most boilers produce steam to be used at saturation temperature, Industrial Boilers America provides superheated steam boilers that vaporize the water and then further heat the steam in a superheater. This provides steam at a much higher temperature but can decrease the overall thermal efficiency of the steam-generating plant because the higher steam temperature requires a higher flue gas exhaust temperature. Our team thrives in engineering solutions for this, typically by providing an economizer that heats the feed water, a combustion air heater in the hot flue gas exhaust path, or both.

There are advantages to superheated steam that may, and often will increase the overall efficiency of both steam generation and its utilization: gains in input temperature to a turbine should outweigh any cost in additional boiler complication and expense. Industries relying on high-efficiency steam production utilize superheaters. These include power generation, manufacturing, food processing, and chemical industries. There may also be practical limitations in using wet steam, as entrained condensation droplets will damage turbine blades.

OUR CAPABILITIES

Types of Superheaters

Industrial Boilers America works with you to find the best application for your operation, depending on the type of boiler and boiler capacity. There are three types of superheaters, each with its own unique features.

Radiant Superheater

Radiant superheaters are a type of superheater that is installed in a radiation zone which is just after the furnace. In high-pressure boilers, the superheated steam reaches 100°C.

Convection Superheater

Convective superheaters are a type of superheater installed after the convective bank of tubes. The superheated steam reaches 50°C.

Separately Fired Superheater

Separately fired superheaters are a type of superheater installed outside the main boiler, with their own separate combustion system. This type of superheater is usually chosen after the other options due to its lower efficiency and lower steam quality.

frequently asked questions

Superheaters are crucial components in steam boilers that heat steam beyond its saturation point, increasing its temperature and energy content.
A superheater transforms wet or saturated steam into dry, superheated steam. This essential device enhances the efficiency of steam turbines for generating electricity, powering steam engines, and facilitating processes such as steam reforming. Essentially, it acts as a coil-type heat exchanger within a boiler system, which is crucial for producing high-quality steam needed for various industrial applications.
The three types of superheaters are radiant, convection, and separately fired. For more information on the different types of superheaters, see our blog, Boiler Super Heaters: What You Need to Know.
